Aleksandar Mitrovic scores two for Serbia – Watch here

Aleksandar Mitrovic hasn’t had the best of times this season.

Banned for the first four games of Newcastle’s season, Rafa Benitez has only given the striker one Championship start.

Scoring and leading the line pretty well against QPR in a 6-0 win, Mitrovic has only been used as a substitute since then.

In international football, the NUFC striker was poor as Serbia drew 2-2 with Ireland and was subbed, then a few days ago was left out as Serbia beat Moldova 3-0 away from home.

The Serbian press were surprised to see Mitrovic recalled for Sunday’s night home game against Austria in their latest World Cup qualifier.

However, he hasn’t let his manager down and after only six minutes opened the scoring with this goal:

That lead though only last nine minutes as Austria then equalised through Sabitzer.

On 23 minutes it was Serbia and Mitrovic again, to restore the lead with this confident header:

Sadly, the Newcastle striker’s teammates at the back haven’t coped as well, with Janko equalising in the 62nd minute – then it was 3-2 with 16 minutes remaining as Tadic gave Serbia yet another lead.

On 77 minutes Mitrovic found his work was done for the night as he was replaced by Gudelj – the game ending in a 3-2 win for the NUFC forward and Serbia.
