Alan Pardew says still happy to have taken the money for 11 goal Dwight Gayle

Alan Pardew has said that he is not surprised at how many goals Dwight Gayle has scored for Newcastle United.

The former NUFC Manager says that the striker has ‘always scored goals at Championship level and proven that’.

With 11 goals in 11 games at 87 minutes per strike, Gayle has proved a pretty decent buy and Alan Pardew agrees, stating  ‘he’s a great signing for Newcastle’.

By coincidence, the Newcastle forward has scored the same number of goals as the entire Crystal Palace squad have scored (11 goals in 8 games) in the Premier League this season.

However, despite this, Pardew says that he has no regrets.

Summer signing Christian Benteke has scored three of those 11 Palace goals, including the 94th minute winner in the 3-2 victory at Sunderland.

Backing up his claim that Gayle’s sale was still good business, despite many Palace fans voicing doubts, Alan Pardew says the money from Newcastle was used to buy Christian Benteke.

With £10m banked from NUFC, it was at least a down payment on the buy from Liverpool, who was reported to have cost close to £30m.

Hopefully Dwight Gayle will be getting the chance next season in the Premier League, with Newcastle United, to prove this is one that Alan Pardew got wrong.

Alan Pardew speaking to the Croydon Advertiser:

“I’m not surprised (that Dwight Gayle has 11 goals already), no.

“He has always scored goals at Championship level and proven that.

“He will continue to do that.

“He scored goals for us in the Premier League, he’s a great signing for Newcastle, and the money we got we used to buy Christian Benteke.”
