There may have been international football on the agenda but that didn’t stop seven Newcastle loan players being in action in leagues one and two.
There were mixed fortunes across the games:
Swindon 0 Bolton 1
Sammy Ameobi came off the bench after an hour and Bolton won 1-0 thanks to an own goal with five minutes to go.
Bradford 2 Shrewsbury 0
Haris Vuckic came on for the last few minutes with Bradford leading 1-0, the United striker scoring the second and final goal of the match from the penalty spot after a spot-kick was awarded in the dying seconds.
Good news for Haris Vuckic but not so good for Ivan Toney. He may have played the full match for Shrewsbury but finished on the losing side and picked up a booking for his troubles.
Morecambe 0 Carlisle 3
Macaulay Gillesphey helped Carlisle into third in League Two, beating Morecambe 3-0 away with the Newcastle defender playing the full 90 minutes.
Luton 1 Crewe 1
Also arriving from the bench was Alex Gilliead, the Newcastle winger joining the action with Luton 1-0 up. However, only two minutes after the NUFC loan player came on, Crewe equalised and it finished 1-1.
Hartlepool 1 Crawley 1
Newcastle forward Tom Heardman hardly got a sweat on as he came on for the final few seconds as Hartlepool drew their League Two game 1-1 with visitors Crawley.
Brackley Town 2 Darlington 2
United keeper Paul Woolston played the full game for Darlington as they drew their National League North game at Brackley 2-2.
