After nine games of this Championship season, Will Hughes has made more tackles than any other player, playing for Derby County – the midfielder has no doubt had plenty of opportunities as his team struggle in the early stages of the season.

The good news though for Newcastle fans, is that United are one of only two clubs to have two players featuring in the top ten.

Isaac Hayden is in joint ninth place with 18 tackles so far, as he plays that defensive midfield role so well.

Even more impressive though is the fact that also in joint ninth place with 18 tackles is Matt Ritchie.

As well as being Newcastle’s biggest threat going forward, the winger has shown a brilliant work ethic in tracking back.

In advance of the game with Norwich City on Wednesday night, Matt Ritchie has shown his appetite for as much action as possible:

“I love it (number of games in Championship and competitiveness),  I am relishing the challenge of getting a massive club like Newcastle back in the Premier League and playing my part.

“Not a surprise to me that I’m enjoying two games a week, all players love playing games.

“You play a game, recover and then go again – It’s fantastic, good fun.
