Tony Cottee has been looking at the three clubs relegated from the Premier League last season.
The Sky Sports pundit thinks that two of the three are going to bounce straight back to the top tier but one of the trio will have to be more patient.
It doesn’t take a genius to work out that Tony Cottee currently makes Norwich and Newcastle favourites to get the automatic promotion places.
The two teams face each other on Wednesday night, with Norwich top at the minute with Newcastle four points behind in fifth – meanwhile Villa are 17th spot after just one win so far this season, 11 points off the Canaries.
Cottee predicts that Aston Villa ‘have got a lot of work to do’ and tonight they travel to seventh place Barnsley.
With no away win in a league match for almost 14 months, Villa are desperate for a victory to give them any kind of impetus this season.
Meanwhile, Norwich boss Alex Neil has stated that the Canaries are coming to Newcastle with the intention of beating the Magpies, rather than trying to scramble a draw.
This will be music to Rafa Benitez’ ears as teams have repeatedly played with packed defences and Newcastle’s players have often struggled to break them down.
Tony Cottee speaking to Sky Sports:
“Norwich City and Newcastle United are OK but I think Aston Villa have got a lot of work to do.
“There were so many problems last year and it takes time for all of that to filter through with new players arriving.”
“I think Aston Villa will push on but for me, Norwich and Newcastle are the favourites to go up.”
