Newcastle United end Saturday night second in the table and in an automatic promotion spot, though no thanks to Adam Armstrong…
The 19 year old is out on loan at Barnsley and they travelled to Preston on Saturday afternoon for a 3pm kick-off.
The Geordie striker was left on the bench and with goals from Winnall (27th minute) for Barnsley and McGeady (64th minute) it looked as though an honourable draw was on the cards for both teams.
However, Adam Armstrong had arrived on the pitch just a couple of minutes prior to Preston’s equaliser and had other ideas.
With just over 10 minutes remaining a ball was played down the right hand side and the on loan Newcastle forward produced an audacious backheel to fool the defender and an expert left foot finish curled around the goalkeeper.
A brilliant goal and one that keeps Barnsley level on points with Newcastle in third position.
