Steve McClaren “Just be honest, be transparent, tell it how it is…”

Steve McClaren has come out with yet another classic.

A regular on Sky Sports after amazingly no other club snapped him up…McClaren has been discussing the fortunes of both Newcastle United and Sunderland.

With Newcastle United, Steve McClaren thinks they are going to be promoted and was impressed with how they bossed the match against the club he was sacked from previous to Newcastle, saying that United completed the job ‘with so much arrogance’ against Derby County.

He also said that he feels Rafa Benitez has settled on his best defence and midfield but that up front, he has still to get it totally right.

As for Sunderland, he was totally behind David Moyes when asked about the mackem manager’s recent comments.

Moyes had said they are already in a relegation battle and Steve McClaren was adamant that this was the right approach, saying: ‘Just be honest, be transparent, tell it how it is’.

Newcastle fans will be laughing/shaking their heads when hearing this.

Last season Steve McClaren said how pleased he was with the Newcastle squad, confident of doing well, totally happy with how the club was run and said to judge him after 10 games.

That 10 game judgement day became 12 and kept increasing, eventually becoming a ‘judge me at the end of the season’, though thankfully he was sacked before we had to endure that.

Since his sacking he has then gone on to claim now that he was never confident about the chances of the Newcastle squad last season and that the inside workings of NUFC with regard to transfer especially, was a major hindrance to him.

I remind myself each day to be grateful that we have Rafa Benitez, rather than still having to endure that idiot with his lame efforts on and off the pitch.

Steve McClaren talking about David Moyes saying Sunderland already in relegation battle:

“Unless you have got the players, unless you have got the right tools, and why, if you don’t think you have, why would you go out there and say: ‘Well, we’re going to be alright this season, we are going to finish mid-table’.

“That just then puts more expectations and pressure on yourself.

“Just be honest, be transparent, tell it how it is. It’s going to be a tough season again, but I think that David Moyes is the right man for the job.

Steve McClaren asked if Newcastle will be promoted:

“Yes I think so (Newcastle to get promotion), I think Rafa Benitez has found his 11…or definitely his best nine anyway – the back four, the midfield four and the goalkeeper.

“But he’s still searching a little bit further forward.

“I watched that (Derby County) game and once Newcastle got the goal they were so much in control, with so much arrogance, Newcastle deserved it.”
