Just how much has the Newcastle United squad changed compared to their 23 Championship rivals?
We all know that there have been numerous transfers (42 at the last count…) in and out of St James Park this summer BUT how much has that impacted on the team/squad that actually took to the pitch in 2015/16?
Some interesting stats put together by Experimental361.com, which looks at all of the minutes played last season by each club and then which players are still at each club.
Their table below showing the percentage of total league minutes played in the 2015/16 season by those players who are still at the club.
As you can see, the Newcastle United squad we are now left with after the transfer window, played just over half (55.4%) of the Premier League minutes played by NUFC last season.
Only eight Championship clubs have seen a bigger shift, with Aston Villa having only two clubs below them.
In contrast, the other relegated team, Norwich City (77.3%), have seen far fewer changes in personnel and have only five clubs above them.
At the very top are Sheffield Wednesday who are the only Championship club to still have all eleven players who were most played last season.
On that subject, these are the 11 Newcastle players who started the most Premier League matches last season as United were relegated.
There are seven of those 11 still at St James Park, though interesting to see that the four who left (Sissoko, Wijnaldum, Janmaat, Coloccini) were in the top half dozen in terms of most PL starts last season.
