It wasn’t just the Newcastle players that were picking up the accolades at Loftus Road on Tuesday.

The team of course did deserve every piece of praise they received after demolishing Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink’s side 6-0…but the Newcastle fans weren’t far behind.

Yes United were coming off the back of a four game winning run in the Championship but if you’re honest, it hasn’t exactly been gripping stuff.

However, after selling out the 3,200 for Derby away on Saturday, only three days later 3,000 Newcastle fans were filling the away end in West London on Tuesday night – remarkable.

With home gates currently on course to mean more Newcastle fans will watch their team at home than all but five other clubs in Europe (see these stats HERE), is this really a club that has just been relegated and playing in the second tier…?

It was nice to see QPR supporters commenting positively on Newcastle’s support last night and credit to former Leeds boss Steve Evans for his generous praise, stating ‘Those magnificent fans deserve nothing other than the Premier League…”

Thanks Steve but just for now we are very much enjoying life in the Championship, players and Newcastle fans alike.

Steve Evans speaking to the Football League Paper:

“At the start of the season, I said Newcastle United would be champions and, despite a poor start, they are now up and running in the Championship.

“Those magnificent fans deserve nothing other than the Premier League – they will be back!”

“Aston Villa have also added some real quality players in the past few weeks.

“It is certainly going to be top six for them.”
