Jonjo Shelvey loses out on top award but doubt he’ll be too bothered…

Jonjo Shelvey was yet again behind pretty much all of the good things that Newcastle did on Wednesday night.

His range of passing was quality and the 60 yard inch perfect one that put Dwight Gayle in for the vital goal to bring it back to 3-2, was inspirational.

However, Jonjo Shelvey has been robbed of one accolade, not that he will be too bothered I’m sure.

The Newcastle midfielder was one of six nominations to be the  Championship FA Player of the Month award for August and September.

With over thirty thousand votes cast, Jonjo Shelvey has lost out by only 166 votes on the top prize, Bristol City’s Tammy Abraham ending up top of the pile.

Ironically, Newcastle’s 4-3 thrilling victory over Norwich City has almost certainly cost Shelvey that player of the month prize.

With almost fifty thousand Newcastle fans inside St James Park watching that amazing match, it meant they weren’t at home online tapping in their votes for the NUFC star.

The final result:

10,979 Tammy Abraham (Bristol City)

10,813 Jonjo Shelvey (Newcastle)

3,771 Aaron Mooy (Huddersfield)

2,476 Jacob Murphy (Norwich)

1,434 Conor Hourihane (Barnsley)

1,124 Scott Hogan (Brentford)

The panel which picked the six nominations included Sky Sports football pundits Paul Merson, Ian Holloway and Peter Beagrie.
