Former Newcastle winger Charles N’Zogbia is heading for an early retirement according to reports in the French media on Thursday morning.

Still only 30, the Frenchman was released by Aston Villa after a disastrous five year stay following a hefty £9m paid to Wigan.

With injuries and indifferent form, Charles N’Zogbia made only 54 league starts for Villa and scored just four goals.

A number of English clubs had been looking at him and he even spent time at Sunderland on trial.

However, N’Zogbia instead went to try his luck back in France only for move to Nantes to break down, after doctors confirmed a heart complication in his medical.

It is now reported that this heart condition is likely to prove too dangerous for the former Newcastle player to continue playing, with early retirement on the cards.

The player was of course sold to Villa by Joe Kinnear, who famously wound him up by calling the French winger ‘Charlie Insomnia’.
