Rafa Benitez has been speaking to the press ahead of his team’s visit to Derby County.

The Newcastle boss says that the club have ‘done good business’ in the transfer market but now ‘we have to do well on the pitch and win’.

In advance of tomorrow’s match, Captain Jamaal Lascelles says that no player is safe and that the manager has told them all to expect to be left out at times this season.

As for Rafa Benitez on the subject, he says ‘I don’t wake up in the morning and think ‘I have to rotate’. Clearly indicating that he will approach game as he sees fit, rather than be tied to any rigid strategy.

As for the new signings, Rafa was giving nothing away, saying simply that they might play, or they may have to wait.

Derby County finished fifth last season and the United manager thinks it is only a ‘question of time’ before they get their form back, having won only one of their five Championship matches so far.

Rafa Benitez speaking at his pre-Derby County press conference:

“We have done good business and I am really pleased. Now we have to do well on the pitch and win.

“If I have to play some of them (the new signings), they can play. If they have to wait, they will wait.

“We still have confidence. The players have played some games. They are fine and ready, no problems.

“I don’t wake up in the morning and think ‘I have to rotate’. It is important to keep competition and keep the players fit.

“We know Derby have experience in this league. When you have a good team it’s only a question of time before you start performing.

Derby are a good team with a good manager & I think they’ll be near the top. I don’t know how high but they will be near the top.”
