Dwight Gayle has been nominated for the Championship goal of the month for August.

The Newcastle striker has scored four goals in four Championship starts and it is his (first) goal against Reading which is up for the award.

A superb free-kick but I reckon his goal at Bristol City was even better – Diame’s pinpoint ball through the middle and the way Gayle took it down and finished, was real top class.

Each month, a panel of three representatives from the EFL, Sky Bet and Sky Sports will pick the best three goals scored in each of the three divisions, to form the Sky Bet EFL Goal of the Month shortlists.

Here is the August Championship shortlist for August picked by EFL’s Commercial Marketing Manager James Walker, Sky Bet Sponsorship Manager David Tweed, and former Wolves striker and Sky Sports pundit Don Goodman.

Jacob Murphy (Norwich) v Blackburn

Tom Cairney (Fulham) v Leeds

Dwight Gayle (Newcastle) first goal v Reading

Votng closes at 6pm on Tuesday 13 September and to view all three goals and/or place your vote (for Dwight Gayle!) go HERE.
