Charlie Nicholas has been commenting on what he thinks will happen at St James Park tonight.

The Sky Sports pundit reckons that Rafa Benitez ‘will be demanding’ what Wolves boss Walter Zenga got on Saturday.

Last Tuesday saw Wolves fans slaughtering players and manager when they were crushed 4-0 at home by Barnsley.

On Saturday the visiting team responded with an all action game that gave Newcastle no time on the ball, Zenga revealing today that his players had ran a ‘huge’ 119 kilometres during that win over Newcastle.

The fact that NUFC had 68% of possession almost totally negated by the work ethic from the Wolves players.

Charlie Nicholas thinks Rafa Benitez will be getting a similar reaction from his players, with ‘the likes of Dwight Gayle will be determined to prove that they are better than what we saw’ in the Championship encounter.

The only problem with Nicholas’ reading of the situation is that Dwight Gayle and many other players will be unlikely to be on the pitch to be able to try and make amends.

Rafa Benitez has already indicated that he will be making a number of changes and the last round saw the Newcastle team that faced Cheltenham being unrecognisable from the one that won at Bristol City three days previously.

Having said that, whichever team Rafa does pick, he will be expecting a far more disciplined and focused performance than he saw on Saturday.

Charlie Nicholas speaking to Sky Sports:

“Walter Zenga got a response after slaughtering his players.

Rafa Benitez will be demanding the same response this time.

“Whilst it might not be a classic performance, I think the likes of Dwight Gayle will be determined to prove that they are better than what we saw on Saturday.”
