Aleksandar Mitrovic certainly has a way with words.

The Newcastle striker is with his Serbian national teammates ahead of tonight’s crucial game with Ireland.

After a disastrous Euro 2016 (non-)qualifying campaign, it is vital that Serbia win back the support of the fans.

Terrible results and a lot of in-fighting reported within the squad during that failed Euros campaign, Aleksandar Mitrovic has been pleading with the Serbian football public to back them.

The Newcastle striker says that the team will ‘fight to the last atom of our strength’ in attempting to qualify for the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

As for what the fans can give the players, Aleksandar Mitrovic says to them ‘Give us this wind, we will not disappoint you, I believe in it’.

Teams just announced, Mitrovic starts but Daryl Murphy is on the bench for Ireland – 7.45pm kick-off..

Aleksandar Mitrovic talking to N1 in Serbia:

“Ireland have a good team and most players I know from the Premier League and  know how to play – they were participants in the European Championship.

“They have lost Robbie Keane but remain a strong and difficult team. We have to keep the ball on the ground and we e need to take care of deep balls and crosses towards our goal.

“On the other hand, with the ball on the ground, we have to find a way to squeeze behind their defence. Victory is imperative. We have to win.

“I appeal to the fans that despite everything that happened in the past, come to the stadium and give us your support.

“We will fight to the last atom of our strength – we need a strong boost.

“Give us this wind, we will not disappoint you, I believe in it.”
