Rafa Benitez has already made clear that when choosing his Newcastle team v Wolves for Tuesday night, he will be making changes from the eleven that started on Saturday.
The question being just how far he will go in changing things?
We’ll never know now what he would have done if Newcastle had made it seven wins in a row at the weekend but I believe certainly now he may try a few different things out.
Before Saturday’s Championship match, the United boss indicated that Daryl Murphy and Achraf Lazaar are in line to start.
Surely we can add both Yedlin and Atsu as well, as they have both looked lively coming from the bench and must be due a start.
Karl Darlow must be surely going to get a game, whilst I would expect Jack Colback to be recalled and defenders Clark and Hanley, the latter struggling for much game time so far.
Rafa Benitez confirmed that the club had appealed against Vurnon Amita’s red card but the odds must be against him starting even if available, having start every Championship game so far, so maybe time for Jesus Gamez to get a game on the right side of the defence.
With Newcastle struggling to break teams down at home, using this 3-5-2 formation both Yedlin and Lazaar are ideal to use as wing-backs, with Hayden and Colback adding defensive cover.
Meanwhile Christian Atsu can play an attacking role behind the front two, Mitrovic joining Murphy up front for a significantly greater presence in attack than the thankless job Dwight Gayle had as an isolated lone striker on Saturday.
