Wayne Rooney has equalled one of Alan Shearer’s goalscoring records.
Whilst the Newcastle legend’s overall title of greatest all-time Premier League goalscorer is unlikely to be under threat any time soon, Manchester United’s 3-1 win at Bournemouth on Sunday brought the loss of one accolade a step closer.
Alan Shearer scored 87 Premier League goals away from home during his time at Newcastle, Blackburn and Southampton, yesterday saw Wayne Rooney go level.
His 59th minute strike to put the red devils 2-0 up, means that he has now scored 87 away goals in the Premier League for Everton and Manchester United.
In stats compiled by Sky Sports, the top five below shows two other Newcastle (and Manchester United!) players featuring in the elite group.
Both Michael Owen and Andy Cole make that top grouping, although Owen only scored two of his 70 away PL goals for Man Utd.
87 Alan Shearer
87 Wayne Rooney
85 Frank Lampard
83 Andy Cole
70 Michael Owen
