As Rafa Benitez continues on with his never ending job of sorting the mess left by Steve McClaren and others, his predecessor has had some reassuring words for the Spaniard.

With no other club willing to take him on, it looks like we are stuck with McClaren as a full-time media pundit.

In his latest take on Newcastle United, Steve McClaren says that with all the changes Rafa Benitez has had to make, it was always going to impact on the early season form.

Funnily enough, the former Newcastle boss doesn’t mention that a lot of the problems for Rafa were caused by what happened when he was at St James Park…

As somebody who has helped relegate Newcastle into the Championship and failed at both Derby County and Nottingham Forest in the second tier in recent times, Steve McClaren obviously counts himself as a bit of an expert, on something.

Once Rafa Benitez has his squad settled down, McClaren predicts that Newcastle will go on to ‘dominate the league’.

Let’s hope he is right about something at last…

Steve McClaren talking to Sky Sports:

“I think that as expected, with all the changes that’s bound to have an effect.

“When you go into the Championship it is all about finding your team…the right blend and balance.

“Once Newcastle find that, then I think they will go on to dominate the league.”
