News on Wednesday morning that Rafa Benitez will call a halt to his summer spending once he completes a full team of new signings.
With eight in the bag already, there are three spaces (see team layout below) remaining to be filled.
The Chronicle say that left-back Brendan Galloway is set to sign today on loan and as has been widely reported previously, the Newcastle boss wants to also bring in another winger and striker.
Those three new arrivals would complete the full team above and certainly if that happens, Rafa would surely have no complaints about the freedom he has had to wheel and deal in the transfer market this summer.
With a bid for Anthony Knockaert already turned down, there is no doubt that the Manager wants to add another winger/attacking midfielder.
Likewise, it is obvious that another striker must arrive. Despite only Mitrovic missing, the only forward cover United had on the bench was Adam Armstrong and it looks very likely that he will be loaned out once again to get regular football.
Whilst Gayle and especially Perez didn’t exactly impress against Fulham, it is still very early days, and surely a quality addition to add to Mitrovic, Gayle and Perez should give Newcastle sufficient attacking options.
Moving away from the potential players coming in, Moussa Sissoko will surely be on his way out sometime, and his fee is set to more than cover the winger and striker Rafa Benitez wants to bring in.
However, The Chronicle also say (and it isn’t exactly a secret) that their info is that the United boss is desperate to clear out the likes of Riviere, de Jong and Tiote from his squad, plus surely Gouffran and others, players who have no future at St James Park.
