Rafa Benitez named in list of Europe’s best paid coaches of 2016/17

Rafa Benitez is one of Europe’s best paid coaches according to new research.

Finance Football have listed the top 20 best paid coaches of the coming season and not only is predictably the best paid in the Championship, he only has 12 ahead of him in the whole of Europe.

Top of the tree is Pep Guardiola at Manchester City, his 18m euros (approx £15.2m) sees him clear of Ancelotti at Bayern Munich, the successor of course to Guardiola.

There are six Premier League bosses in total that are better paid than Rafa Benitez on 5m euros (approx £4.2m), maybe the most surprising being 9th placed Ronald Koeman on 7m euros – a sign of just how far Everton are upping the stakes in terms of their ambition.

As you’d expect, Rafa’s successor at Real Madrid, Zinedine Zidane, is above the Newcastle boss, rewarded with a 9.5m euros a year deal.

With players going for ever more ridiculous money, it is surely a relative pittance if you get the right manager.

After suffering the likes of Pardew, Carver and McClaren, Newcastle fans would happily pay Rafa Benitez twice as much if he does the job at St James Park.
