Following the 2-0 defeat of Cheltenham, Rafa Benitez has been asked about the signing of Tottenham right-back DeAndre Yedlin.

The player watched the match (see photo above) from the stands at St James Park after arriving earlier in the day at Newcastle Airport, with a medical scheduled.

Rafa confirmed that he knew DeAndre Yedlin had been watching the game but said that he wasn’t sure if all the paperwork had been completed just yet.

Rafa Benitez:

“Yes (DeAndre Yedlin was watching the game) but I don’t know if it is completed just yet – but the main thing is we have three days to recover and if we can add new players, it will be good.”

The 23 year old right-back can also play right midfield and as a wing-back and is  surplus to requirements at White Hart Lane.

Arriving 18 months ago from Seattle Sounders, Yedlin has played only 11 minutes of football for the North London club and didn’t make either of the Tottenham matchday squads so far this season.

DeAndre Yedlin went out on loan to Sunderland last season and made 23 Premier League appearances but was available for £4m according to various media.

Aston Villa were claimed to have already bid for the player with Hull and Derby also credited with interest in the defender, who already has 39 caps for the United States.

As often appears to be the case, Spurs have a surplus of options at full-back and need to trim their squad.
