I have been going to St James Park for over 50 years now, didn’t think I would live this long without us winning another trophy, the current crop of want away players disgust me.

I used to go to Ponteland Club every Sunday with my dad, who used to go to watch NUFC on a horse and cart from Capheaton, back when Hughie Gallacher played.

There was a bloke on the door at Ponteland Club called Bobby and my dad would always go and have a chat with him, ask what he thought of the previous day’s match.

He was a quiet guy who lived on the council estate behind and always wore the same shabby suit.

I thought nothing about this until Bobby died, turns out he was three times FA Cup winner Bobby Cowell.

Probably earned £25 a week, then when he finished playing – nowt. Never complained, just got on with life, loved NUFC.

These are the people I want to see play for the club, hopefully Rafa Benitez will instill that belief in local boys again.
