Norwich say that they learnt their lessons after having watched Newcastle United on Friday night.

Steven Naismith said that after watching Fulham beat Newcastle ‘you can’t underestimate anybody’.

The Norwich forward saying that you ‘can’t just expect to turn up and win games’ in the Championship and that the Canaries squad had been told this over and over again.

When it came to their game on Saturday, Norwich were at it from the off and tore into Blackburn, going three goals up after only 25 minutes, the match eventually ending 4-1 to the away team.

The emphasis on attack in that match was maybe also a lesson to Rafa Benitez who arguably went in too negatively against Fulham.

Steven Naismith telling the Eastern Daily Press:

“We watched the Newcastle game in the hotel and in this league especially, you can’t underestimate anybody.

“The amount of results that haven’t gone the way they should have in everybody’s eyes over the years, that is the key here.

“We’ve got enough boys who have played here and understands what it takes, and they’ve let it be known to everybody that you can’t just expect to turn up and win games because the division’s not like that. And we showed that here.

“We gave Blackburn respect but we had a game plan and executed it well.”

Rafa Benitez after the Fulham defeat said something very similar to Steven Naismith, when asked whether the players had been carried away by the hype and everybody saying Newcastle were certainties to go up, the United boss explained:

“We said before but then you have to repeat these things, maybe 100 times, and then people (the players) will realise that it is not easy.

“It will be like this every single game.”
