Both The Times and the Chronicle have confirmed on Thursday morning that United are in discussions to finalise a deal that would bring Rafa Benitez his 10th signing of the summer.
The past 24 hours have seen United effectively change DeAndre Yedlin for Daryl Janmaat and if this bid for Achraf Lazaar is successful, then you would imagine it is very likely that Paul Dummett could exit – with claims of interest from Premier League clubs in recent weeks.
Achraf Lazaar has five caps for Morocco and has been first choice for Palermo over the course of the past two and a half seasons.
However, the 24 year old was only a substitute when Palermo kicked off their competitive football with a cup game and then on Sunday when they started their Serie A campaign, Lazaar wasn’t named in the matchday squad.
After so little time, money and effort being spent on the Newcastle defence in recent years, Rafa Benitez has now brought in what amounts to a potentially whole new defence, with Ciaran Clark, Grant Hanley, DeAndre Yedlin and Jesus Gamez already having arrived.
