Newcastle look to bring Tottenham defender in to replace Daryl Janmaat

Newcastle are set to move for Tottenham defender DeAndre Yedlin, according to reports this morning.

The 23 year old right-back can also play right midfield and as a wing-back and is said to be surplus to requirements at White Hart Lane.

Arriving 18 months ago from Seattle Sounders, Yedlin has played only 11 minutes of football for the North London club and didn’t make either of the Tottenham matchday squads so far this season.

DeAndre Yedlin went out on loan to Sunderland last season and made 23 Premier League appearances but is now up for sale for £4m according to The Mail.

Aston Villa are claimed to have already bid for the player with Hull and Derby also credited with interest in the defender who already has 39 caps for the United States.

As often appears to be the case, Spurs have a surplus of options at full-back and need to trim their squad.

From the Newcastle end of things, Saturday brought claims that both Napoli and West Ham are keen on buying Daryl Janmaat, the Dutch defender starting the first two matches of the season before being dropped to the bench in midweek and then left out of the matchday 18 altogether at Bristol City yesterday.

There were press claims that Janmaat didn’t even travel with the squad to the south west and his time looks up at St James Park, his national manager Danny Blind claiming in March that if Newcastle were relegated the full-back wanted to leave Tyneside.

Rafa Benitez had fielded questions on Friday about Jesus Gamez not featuring for Newcastle so far and the manager said it would take time for the defender to adjust to English football, then Saturday saw him missing from the matchday squad with claims of a new injury for the Spanish full-back.
