Newcastle United have been linked with a move for David McGoldrick.

The 28 year old striker has scored 30 Championship goals for Ipswich in 77 starts (+19 as sub).

The Sun claim that Newcastle are considering paying £6m for the forward to help add to the attacking options.

David McGoldrick has four caps for the Republic of Ireland but wasn’t included in their Euros squad and difficult to see him being good enough when he only managed nine starts last season for Ipswich, making more (15) appearances from the bench.

Last month Newcastle were linked with a move for McGoldrick’s team-mate Daryl Murphy, the pair of them both involved in Ipswich’s 4-2 win over Barnsley on Saturday – Murphy making one goal and David McGoldrick scoring a penalty.

In the last promotion campaign, Newcastle had a number of strikers who weren’t necessarily Premier League class, with Lovenkrands, Shola, Harewood and Best all playing their part in making Newcastle champions.

Rafa Benitez has made eight signings so far and five of those had previous Championship experience, most Newcastle fans though will be hoping that players with a better profile than McGoldrick’s will be targeted to add to the goalscoring power of the squad.
