Saturday afternoon saw Huddersfield’s attack give Newcastle’s players a few lessons, with Nahki Wells and his team-mates impressing with their movement and penetration.
Whilst Newcastle toiled with slow approach work and lack of ideas, the visitors created a number of clear cut chances before they eventually scored the first of two goals just before half-time.
That goalscorer was Nahki Wells, outdoing Jamaal Lascelles and putting his effort right in Matz Sels’ bottom right hand corner.
Newcastle have now been linked with an £8m move for Nahki Wells, the Yorkshire Post and others claiming United see the striker as part of the answer to their lack of goal threat so far.
The Bermudan international was sixth top scorer in the Championship last season with 17 goals, plus he also contributed four assists (see list below)..
Though whether the 26 year old striker is the answer Rafa Benitez is looking for remains to be seen, overall Wells has scored 35 goals in 89 Champions starts (plus 11 as sub) as well as scoring freely for Bradford City in Leagues One and Two before that – 46 goals in 68 starts (plus 26 as sub).
The local media had claimed this morning that Rafa still wants a left-back, a winger and two strikers, so with just over two weeks to go there is plenty orf work to do on that front, as well as clearing out some of the numerous unwanted players.
