New boss ‘Steven Taylor plays balls to the wall’

One of the big attraction for Portland Timbers was because apparently Steven Taylor ‘plays balls to the wall’.

That is the assessment of Taylor’s new Head Coach, Caleb Porter.

A lot of terms have been used to describe Steven Taylor in the past by Newcastle fans but that was a new one on me.

Checking up I found out it is a:

‘Term used by pilots. when accelerating quickly, the throttle is pushed all the way to the panel and the throttle lever (ball) actually touches the panel (wall). Hence, balls to the wall.’

Caleb Porter:

Steven Taylor is more of a guy that’s going to throw his body about and put his face into things…he plays balls to the wall.”

As for Steven Taylor, he is as ever talking a good game:

“I’ve got that feeling now where the excitement is back.

“I have got my happy feet.

“My main thing now is getting fit, I’m excited. I can’t wait to get out there.”

“I played in the England youth level with him (new team-mate Liam Ridgewell), I knew all about him when he was at Aston Villa, Birmingham. I played against him in the Premiership.

“I want clean sheets. I’m going to try my hardest to give the fans something to shout about. The main thing for me is winning games. I don’t care how we do it. As long as we win games, I’ll be happy.

“I want to win something, I think back in England, the chances to win something are very little. For me to come out here, the opportunity to be a Portland Timber is something I’m going to relish.”
