Just one of the Newcastle players sitting idly by as United struggle to cope with the transition to the Championship, is Henri Saivet.

Along with the likes of Cheick Tiote, Yoan Gouffran, Emmanuel Riviere and others, Henri Saivet clearly doesn’t feature in Rafa Benitez’ plans.

Not included in the 18 players named against Huddersfield, Henri Saivet still hasn’t played a minute of football under Benitez.

However, there could be a solution, at least temporarily, on the horizon with claims in France today that St.Etienne have approached the midfielder’s agents.

L’Equipe say that their information is that the Ligue 1 club want to take Henri Saivet on an initial loan and are willing to pay part of his wages.

They say that Saivet currently earns 200,000 euros (approx £172,000) a month, a figure that would be way beyond what any French club could get close to, apart from PSG or any other club which qualifies for the Champions League – which doesn’t include St.Etienne.

St.Etienne Manager Christophe Galtier, is said to have made the Newcastle player his priority signing and United will surely be desperate to offload Henri Saivet before the transfer window closes.

Obviously Rafa Benitez has to take some responsibility for the dismal displays in the first two games but the ridiculous transfer policy of the past has landed him with the unwelcome distraction, of also trying to shift on some very costly mistakes that preceded him.
