Brendan Galloway is on the verge of becoming the ninth Rafa Benitez signing of the summer.
The Newcastle boss has so far resisted the temptation to use the loan market but in order to add the right quality to his current mix, the 20 year old Everton left-back is set to be signed on a one year loan arrangement.
George Caulkin of The Times says that a loan fee of £1m+ will be paid by Newcastle and that final agreement is close.
The dire performance of Paul Dummett at Craven Cottage on Friday night looks to have finally forced Rafa’s hand, in looking elsewhere for at least a temporary fix for the long running left-back problem at Newcastle.
An exciting quick full-back, Brendan Galloway would be a real asset and certainly looks a major step up from Paul Dummett, but then it brings into question what is happening with Jesus Gamez?
Last season he filled in at left-back for Atletico Madrid and the experienced 31 year old would surely be expected to be able to handle the Championship.
Unless of course Daryl Janmaat is set to leave before this window closes, allowing Jesus Gamez to take that spot.
As Friday night appeared to confirm, Rafa Benitez is still struggling to finish the job off of giving Newcastle’s squad a more balanced look, with still a shortage of creativity and goals in the current mix of players.
The now 20 year old Brendan Galloway had a breakthrough season in the last campaign, making 15 Premier League appearances (14 of them in the starting eleven) in the first half of the season, only for Leighton Baines to return from injury and from January onwards Galloway didn’t get another minute on the pitch in the Premier League.
