Barcelona are set to trigger a transfer for Tim Krul, with the signing of Jasper Cillessen setting in motion a move of his own for the Newcastle keeper.
Cillessen has been left out of the Ajax match on Saturday night against Willem II and a move to Barcelona is set to be completed for a transfer fee of around 14m euros (over £12m).
Jasper Cillessen is currently number one for Holland, as well as Ajax.
To fill the impending gap in their team/squad, Ajax have Tim Krul as their number one target, according to De Telegraaf.
With less than 11 months left on his Newcastle contract, Rafa Benitez this week said (see below) that the club were happy to listen to offers for the keeper, with current number one Matz Sels having now made it five senior keepers at the club.
A transfer fee of around £4m has been speculated for Tim Krul, who could leave for nothing next June if he runs his contract down.
The Newcastle keeper said this week that he will be back in training in the coming days with the rest of the goalkeepers and Ajax are said to anticipate that Krul will be ready to play sometime next month.
The biggest problem for Ajax isn’t the transfer fee as the Cillessen money will more than cover it – but De Telegraaf say that matching Tim Krul’s current wage would mean the Dutch club smashing their current salary ceiling.
Rafa Benitez Tuesday 17 August:
“He has one year left on his contract and we have five keepers are the moment, he’s coming back from injury, training hard and improving.
“We have Sels now, we have Darlow and we have Woodman…so we can’t keep five keepers for the whole season.
“If we can have a solution before (the transfer window ends) – he is getting fitter but it depends if anyone is interested, if they are, we will listen to them.
