Amusing reactions from Cheltenham fans after landing trip to Newcastle in cup

Some amusing reactions from Cheltenham fans after pulling out an away draw at St James Park in Wednesday night’s EFL (League) Cup draw.

Matches are to be played week commencing 22 August and Newcastle look set to play in their usual Wednesday night (24 August) spot, after trying out Tuesday night last season for some unexplained reason.

Sunderland also got a home draw so are set to play in their usual Tuesday night slot, Shrewsbury and on-loan Newcastle striker Ivan Toney heading to Wearside for their second round tie.

League Two Cheltenham should get a decent payday, with the match taking place whilst the summer holidays are still on and prices no doubt set at what has become the usual budget cup prices.

As for the Cheltenham fans – they seem pretty pleased with the draw, read how they reacted to the draw below…

The comments from Cheltenham fans via Twitter and their top fan message board, the Robins Nest Forum:

‘Get the f*** in! Up to Newcastle we go!’

‘When you are buzzing for the draw and then realise that means you are going Carlisle and Newcastle in the space of 7 days.’

‘If you can get the day off work then do! Travel up there to support the boys! Do you really want to miss seeing us beat them?’

‘Omg Newcastle away omg.’

‘Ant & Dec we’re coming for you!’

‘Newcastle away. Nice journey, great stadium and fans. Should be a good test.’

‘Not a bad draw for Cheltenham Town that – trip to little old #nufc @ St James Park!’

‘Newcastle here we come!’

‘Wonderful….my family on Dad’s side all Geordies so a must go…..up there not long ago and some super drinking holes!’

‘Great draw, I doubt we will take more than 300 being mid-week and in the league cup but I’m booking the day off work to ensure I can be there.’

‘Let’s not embarrass ourselves and take less than a 1000.’

‘When we played Sunderland we stayed in Newcastle – post game got back to town and asked a taxi driver was it too late to party…he said

“away the lads – The Toon rocks an Ah will set ye te a club – an as yee ran the macken bastards close, a club tha nivvor closes”….

I don’t remember going back to the hotel let alone what happened, but I woke with a signed calendar of naked ladies on top of me LOL.’

‘Perfectly possible to stay out all night and get the first train back South.’

‘Toon Ale Guide coming soon.

Featuring: Local breweries, Local ‘must sample’, Hipster ale taverns, Traditional ale houses, Microbrew pubs, Places to avoid…’

‘I would wait for date confirmation before booking travel etc. Sunderland also at home so they may well have to play the games on different days.’

‘Nice draw! We’ll take at least 1,000 up there and a crowd of 30,000 will give us a nice pay day. A well deserved reward for the players and manager.’

‘Didn’t we only take 300 when we played Sunderland mid-week in a total crowd of 9000? To be honest I was expecting something similar to that with a crowd of about 15,000.’
