Aleksandar Mitrovic welcomes the Rafalution and is more than ready to join his team-mates.
The Serbian striker welcoming the competition for places because:”If you are not 100% and play well in every game, then you will be on the bench.”
Mitrovic describes it as a ‘long few weeks’ watching the first four matches due to his suspension against Tottenham.
The Newcastle forward saying that he has learnt his lesson but still maintains he didn’t mean to kick the Spurs player…
Mitrovic is looking forward to linking up with Dwight Gayle who has already scored four in four, describing the former Palace player as a ‘good guy’ and ‘a really good player’.
Rafa Benitez has indicated at his Monday press conference that Mitrovic is almost certain to start against Cheltenham, then we will hopefully be able to look forward to Saturday and wonder about Saturday’s team selection when Brighton visit – whether Rafa will partner Gayle and Mitrovic.
Aleksandar Mitrovic speaking to NUFC TV:
‘How excited are you to be back?’
“Very excited, very happy, finally I am back and hopefully we will win tomorrow (Cheltenham).”
‘How difficult having to sit and wait?’
“Yes, it is really hard but the guys did a good job so we win the last two games and we are in a good mood now.
“We have trained very hard for the last few weeks, so I’m ready for me to start the season.”
‘Have you learnt your lesson from Tottenham?’
“Yes, of course, but I didn’t mean to do that, I didn’t try to kick him, I tried to play the ball. Of course I will try to be more careful and learn from this mistake.”
‘Do you think you could have a good partnership with Dwight Gayle?’
“Yes hopefully, he’s a good guy, a really good player and already has four goals in four games.
“It is good having more players who can score goals, I hope we can be better and better every game.
“It’s good because if you are not 100% and play well in every game, then you will be on the bench.”
‘How fit and how ready do you feel?’
“I work hard in the gym and outside every day.
“A long few weeks for me but I try to do my best every single day – so we will see tomorrow (Tuesday – Cheltenham), hopefully I will play.”
‘What about the thinking with the new haircut?’
“It was just a little boring, so I try a change.”
