Alan Shearer said before the season started that he didn’t think it would be as easy for Newcastle United as many were predicting…
With defeats and unconvincing performances against Huddersfield and Fulham, the Newcastle legend’s fears look justified.
Despite the ‘rocky start’ to the season and losing the first two games, Alan Shearer still thinks Newcastle will get promoted.
The former number nine believing that ‘it was just important to get that first win’ and says that ‘it wouldn’t surprise’ him if United went on a bit of a run now.
Shearer thinks that the win against Reading will give the players confidence and release a bit of pressure and certainly a draw at the very least is needed at Bristol City today, if Newcastle are to build on that midweek result.
Alan Shearer writing for Coral:
“I said before the season started that I didn’t think it would be as easy for Newcastle in the Championship as everyone thought and the odds suggested, and they have got off to a rocky start.
“It’s a long hard season, and they lost their opening two games, but I do think they are going to get promoted, whether that’s as one of the two teams who get automatic promotion or through the play-offs.
“It was just important to get that first win, as they did against Reading, and it wouldn’t surprise me if they went on a bit of a run now they’ve got that little bit of confidence.
“The pressure is now off them and winning is a great feeling.”
