Alan Judge due in Newcastle today for medical – Reports

Alan Judge is set to arrive in Newcastle to take a medical according to the Chronicle.

They say the 27 year old Brentford midfielder is on his way to St James Park and depending on what happens with his medical, should become Rafa Benitez’ ninth signing.

The only possible hurdle could be that Alan Judge is currently recovering from a double leg break suffered against Ipswich in April, with the player not set to play again until November.

In the last year of his contract, the price will no doubt reflect that – plus of course that he is ruled out for a significant part of this season as well.

Last season was a real landmark one for the midfielder, scoring 14 goals in 38 Championship appearances.

In addition, Alan Judge was named in the PFA Championship team for last season by his fellow players, in May one of our writers did a feature looking at whether any of those players could potentially be decent signings and the write-up on the Brentford midfielder is below.

The PFA Championship team of the season 2015/16

Alan Judge

Another player most Newcastle fans won’t know much about. Similar stature to Barry Bannan, the 27 year old has had a bit of a breakthrough season, after not making great waves in the past playing for the likes of Plymouth, Notts County and Brentford in League One and the Championship.

Scored 14 goals in only 38 Championship matches from midfield last season, which is an impressive stat. Maybe worth a look by Newcastle but again  the question will be whether he is even at the same level as Newcastle’s current options?
