Dwight Gayle has given two special reasons for making the move from London to Tyneside.
The striker says that a big factor in joining Newcastle United was the presence of Rafa Benitez.
Dwight Gayle believing that Rafa is both a ‘great manager’ and one who can help him progress as a player.
The former Palace forward believes Newcastle are heading back to the Premier League and in the process he can prove his doubters wrong.
As well as Rafa Benitez, Gayle has identified the Newcastle fanbase as the second special factor in his decision.
The striker relishing playing in front of crowds that will still be almost double those at Selhurst Park, despite the drop into the Championship.
Dwight Gayle talking to BBC Radio Newcastle:
“Rafa Benitez is a great manager and has great experience.
“There is expectation but under the manager here I believe he can help me to perform.
“There’s a great history at Newcastle – I’m looking forward to getting this club back in the Premier League and proving a few people wrong.
“There was other interest but the opportunity of playing at Newcastle in front of 50,000 is a great one.
“It’s great for a player to have the support behind them, it gives you that extra strength. It was the best thing for me and my career.”
