Speaking from Newcastle’s training camp in County Kildare on Tuesday, Rafa Benitez has reacted to the media coverage surrounding Moussa Sissoko.
With an asking price said to have been revealed by Newcastle United, Sissoko’s agent claiming the club have reneged on a deal, and the player himself once again stating he wants to leave…Rafa Benitez as taken it all in his stride.
The Newcastle boss simply says he is really disappointed that France didn’t win the final on Sunday and that ‘we would like to see him here’ rather than moving to another club.
As for Newcastle apparently making public that they want at least £35m for the midfielder, Rafa Benitez insists that ‘we didn’t put any price’ on the player.
Rafa says that the fact he made Moussa Sissoko Captain last season shows just how much he thinks of him and he ‘appreciated him too much to think about that I will miss him’.
Make of Rafa’s words what you will but surely if Newcastle are offered anything like £35m even the United boss will happily snap their hands off!
Rafa Benitez speaking to the club’s official TV channel:
“Really disappointed because they (France) couldn’t win the final but really pleased for him because he was doing really well.
“We know he finished the season doing really well for us, I make him the Captain so I rate him really high.
“Disappointed because he didn’t win, happy because of his performances.
“Now we have to wait.
“People are talking about this price...we don’t want to sell, so we didn’t put any price and we are pleased and we are happy with him.
“I appreciated him too much to think about that I will miss him.
“We know that he has done really well and a lot of people will be talking about him but we would like to see him here.”
