Newcastle United have turned down bids for both Florian Thauvin and Cheick Tiote.

Offers were tabled for both players but according to Sky Sports, what was on offer didn’t impress NUFC.

Their (Sky Sports) man in the north east, Keith Downie, says that the bids have come in from Lazio for Thauvin and Al Jazira for Cheick Tiote.

Whether the intention by making this public is to encourage those clubs to bid higher, or to alert other clubs, remains to be seen.

Neither of the pair have started any of Newcastle United’s four friendlies so far, clearly indicating that Rafa Benitez doesn’t see them featuring in his plans this coming season.

Cheick Tiote has only played 34 minutes as a sub in the pre-season schedule, whilst Florian Thauvin has been on the pitch for 111 minutes in his appearances off the bench.

Tiote only has 11 months of his contract remaining and surely the club are desperate to move him on, whilst Thauvin also looks to have no future at St James Park despite four years remaining on his deal.

However, this appears to be a message from Newcastle via their friends at Sky Sports, to make it very public that no players will be allowed to move on the cheap, no matter whether they are still wanted or not at the club.
