Confirmation that Newcastle United and Liverpool have been in talks over the transfer of Gini Wijnaldum.
The Press Association say that their information is that discussions between the two clubs have not as yet reached agreement.
Speculation has increased day by day with claims earlier today that a deal should be done in time for the former PSV Captain to fly to America with the rest of the squad.
When the Press Association report that they ‘understand’ such and such has taken place, then it as close as you are going to get to something which you can rely on.
In this case they will have been briefed by one of the parties, almost certainly Newcastle United, with a suggestion that the sticking point so far isn’t so much the transfer fee level, more the case that Newcastle want all the money up front and Liverpool want staged payments.
The Press Association say that Newcastle don’t want to sell Wijnaldum but that they accept if somebody offers the right amount/payment structure, then they will.
In the same report they state that no acceptable offers have been made for either Wijnaldum or Sissoko as yet, giving further credence to the insight into the transfers having come from the Newcastle end.
We now know that both players clearly want to leave, just that Wijnaldum is playing it a little bit cuter than Sissoko, who appears to be going out of his way to annoy as many Newcastle fans as possible.
