Monday saw the inaugural Newcastle United Foundation 1892 Cup, 128 kids from local schools competing at the NUFC Academy, featuring boys’ and girls; teams.
All 128 children were fully kitted out with the new Newcastle United 2016/17 home kit.
Newcastle United manager Rafa Benítez beforehand:
“We are very pleased to be hosting this very special tournament and to bring the community and our young supporters closer to the Club. We are all looking forward to it.
“It will be great to see the children proudly wearing our new kit. I hope they have a lot of fun playing in it and hopefully they will enjoy wearing it during this season, too.”

“Newcastle United Foundation’s work with tens of thousands of young people and their families relies on generous partners and fundraisers, so we are very grateful for the support the club and Sports Direct have given the tournament.
“Football has an incredible capacity to engage and inspire children so we hope the tournament will be a great way for them to have fun, keep active and enjoy playing sports with their friends.”

An extra special treat for the children after the action was over, was the appearance of Rafa Benitez and a handful of first team players to meet the kids and hand out medals.
