Newcastle United have agreed a deal with Blackburn Rovers for the transfer of their Captain, Grant Hanley.

The central defender is due to arrive on Tyneside to complete his medical and become the sixth signing for Rafa Benitez.

After bids of £3.5m and £4.5m were turned down, Sky Sports’ man in the north east Keith Downie says Blackburn have agreed to take £5.5m.

No details at the moment as to whether there will be any add-ons, with a bonus on promotion previously claimed as part of any deal.

Tuesday night saw Blackburn play their latest friendly against Rochdale and for the third time in a row his name was missing from the team, a ‘knee injury’ once again claimed to be the reason but a widespread belief that he was being looked after in anticipation of a move.

After the 1-1 draw, it was interesting that Blackburn boss Owen Coyle didn’t mention his Captain when talking about possible injured players returning at the weekend for their next friendly outing.
