I don’t see the problem in letting Gini Wijnaldum leave the club if he wants to.

For far too many games last season it was as if we were playing with 10 men, especially away from home. He was supposed to be a big player for us, in the previous season for PSV they won the title and he was the Dutch league’s player of the year, which gave him a lot of hype.

To be fair, I don’t think Steve McClaren helped matters by playing him in all kinds of different positions and when the going got tough there was no one there to motivate him and try and pick his head up.

We have had a few players from the Dutch league now and I am not sure any of them have made a great impact. I’ll give an exception to Vurnon Anita who I thought was outstanding when asked to play at right-back during the back end of the season, though I still don’t think he has been given a fair crack of the whip.

Gini got 11 goals last season and they all came at home, with four of those in the one match. I think he’s been a let-down and picking up 20+ million for him is a great bit of business – if another premier league team wants to take a gamble on him, after the season he’s just had, then be my guest.

You can see he’s got a lot of talent and when things are going right for him he can be unstoppable, but I’m not sure that he can really cut the mustard in the Premier League, I hope I’m wrong for his sake, maybe he wasn’t prepared for playing in a struggling team, who knows, but best of luck to him whatever he does and hopefully we can get someone in who doesn’t mind getting stuck in when we need them, home and away.

Rafa must be already lining up his transfer targets to replace him, with £20 million+ to spend for a team in the Championship that’s a fair bit, and with the reputation that Rafa Benitez has got, who wouldn’t want to join the Rafalution?

If he can persuade players such as Atletico Madrid defender Jesus Gamez to join us then am sure we’ll have plenty options.

Newcastle United need to be back in the Premier League at the first chance and we as fans deserve players who give 100% week in week out and that’s all we can ask for. In Rafa we trust.
