Davide Santon is off to Sunderland it appears.
Thursday afternoon has brought widespread reports in both Italy and England, claiming talks are at an advanced stage and he will move for around £3m, roughly the same amount he went for when moving from Newcastle to Inter Milan last summer.
From a Newcastle fan perspective, not sure what to think about this one, if it goes through.
A bit indifferent to it really, the same Newcastle fans will probably feel the same way now as they always did about Davide Santon.
Supporters were always split between those who thought he was a very good attacking full-back who was let down by the absence of quality around him, whilst others just thought he was a hopeless defender.
Maybe more of a surprise is that it is Sam Allardyce who has seemingly identified the former Newcastle full-back as a player he wants. You always get the impression with Allardyce that he would want defenders who could definitely…defend, before looking at any other attributes.
After a relatively successful loan period at Inter, Davide Santon made a permanent move last summer after playing enough games whilst on loan to trigger that deal.
However, after being a regular in the first two months of last season, Santon only started two Serie A games since October 2015.
A quick check of Sunderland fans on social media suggests they aren’t getting too excited by the potential transfer.
