Approach made for Siem de Jong – Reports

Siem de Jong  could finally get a chance of regular first team football according to reports on Monday morning.

Making only four Premier League starts in two years at Newcastle, Haberturk report that Fenerbahce have contacted United to sound them out about a possible deal.

The Turkish media organisation say that with the imminent departure of Brazilian international midfielder Diego, Fenerbahce have identified Siem de Jong as a potential replacement.

The Turkish club can offer Champions League football this coming season but Haberturk say that a combination of wages and a claimed £6.75m valuation by Newcastle, has left Fenerbahce wondering whether to harden their interest in the player.

Siem de Jong wasn’t given a single start in the final 10 matches under Rafa Benitez as he made only four appearances from the bench under the new manager.

Doubts persist as to whether de Jong is really suited to English football, even in the second tier, plus the ongoing worries about his fitness.

Transfer stories featuring Newcastle players and Turkish clubs have a shockingly poor conversion rate but regardless of that, surely this is the point when Siem de Jong must at the very least head out on loan if Rafa Benitez indicates he doesn’t feature in his plans.
