A busy Saturday for Newcastle United was topped off with a strong younger side knocking five past Darlington.

A senior 27 man squad has been getting in a week of pre-season training in County Kildare, culminating in a six goal romp against Bohemian FC earlier this afternoon (watch the goals HERE).

Despite this, in an hour later (3pm) kick-off at Darlington, a strong Newcastle team featuring five players with first team experience managed five goals of their own.

A spirited Darlington performance wasn’t enough to deal with the visitors, Haris Vuckic opening the scoring after six minutes, a bit of a scruffy goal after Cameron & Bigirimana had set him up, Vuckic needing a second chance after initially hitting the post.

A cracking Ivan Toney free-kick goal followed, the former Northampton striker curling his effort over the wall and into the bottom left corner on 12 minutes.

A rout looked in prospect at the point but Darlington dug in and it was only with half-time approaching that United added a third, Callum Roberts seeing his effort striking the post but ending up in the back of the net via a Darlo defender.

However, Darlington quickly hit back with a goal of their own, a free-kick move making the score 3-1 on the stroke of half-time.

The home keeper produced some stunning saves to keep the scoreline respectable in the second period but Satka and Longstaff added another couple of goals to give a four goal margin at the final whistle.
