In his interview this week in France, Moussa Sissoko stated that he wanted to leave Newcastle as his ambitions wouldn’t be satisfied by dropping into the Championship.

The midfielder adding that he wanted to stay in England but move to a Champions League club.

Sissoko stating that he hoped Rafa Benitez and the club would understand this and that his departure would go smoothly.

Well, if Moussa Sissoko thinks that he will just be able to walk away whenever he decides, he may have to think again.

Rafa Benitez has declared that he wants to keep his ‘squad as strong as possible’ and that Moussa Sissoko knows that the Manager wants to keep him.

Rafa says that the player knows because he recently informed the player’s agent of this and that ‘it is important to realise’ that Sissoko’s interview this week doesn’t change anything.

Rafa Benitez stating categorically that he intends to try to keep Sissoko at the club ‘for sure’.

To sum it up, it would appear that unless an over the top sum (rumours this week that Newcastle want £20m) was offered for Moussa Sissoko, Rafa Benitez has no intention of letting the player leave.

Considering the player’s indifferent form, it is very hard to see any club going to the kind of level Newcastle would sell at, which suggests we are looking at some interesting times ahead with United’s sole representative at the Euros.

Rafa Benitez interviewed by Mick Lowes on Radio Newcastle:

‘Moussa Sissoko has said in an interview this week that he might need to move on, do you think that will be the case – do you know that?’

“My idea is to keep the squad as strong as possible.

“I think we have to analyse every single case.

“Moussa Sissoko, he knows, because I was talking with his agent and he knows that he is an important player for us.

“So I will try to keep him with us for sure.

“These comments in the press, it is important to realise that they will not change things.

“So we said what we said before, we want to keep the squad as strong as possible and do our best for the team.”
