Newcastle United’s Championship fixture list was circulated at the weekend.

However, the only problem was that it has been proved to be a fake set of fixtures.

The real Championship fixture list is scheduled to be announced in 16 days time on Wednesday 22 June.

The Football League say that they are still 10 days away from having a first draft of fixtures to then review.

They also state that a number of fixtures on the hoax fixture list ‘would not be permitted for operational and policing reasons’.

The fake Championship fixture list claimed that Newcastle would kick off the season away at promoted Wigan on Saturday 6 August.

Hoax fixture lists used to be more common than the various ‘leaked’ new shirt designs that get circulated these days but maybe we are seeing a revival…

The Football League stated on Monday 6 June:

“We can confirm the ‘fixture list’ published online at the weekend is a hoax.

“At this stage we are still about 10 days away from being able to review a first draft of the 2016/17 fixture list.

“It’s worth noting a number of the fixtures in the hoax list would not be permitted on those dates for operational & policing reasons.”
