Newcastle striker trains throughout summer to prepare for Championship – Video

An eventful 12 months for Newcastle United striker Ivan Toney.

Plucked from League Two to the Premier League, the Northampton striker found himself quickly making his debut when Newcastle were drawn against his former club in the League Cup – Ivan Toney coming off the bench as United easily won 4-1.

In 21 appearances across two loan spells, the now 20 year old striker had an eventful time at Barnsley. He scored a couple of goals as he was mainly used off the bench and made two appearances at Wembley, helping Barnsley win the Johnstone’s Paints Trophy and more importantly, victory in the Play-Off final to ensure promotion to the Championship.

It will be interesting to see what Rafa Benitez decides in the forward position, whether he will entrust the likes of Ivan Toney and Adam Armstrong with places amongst his four or five strike options, or send them out on loan again.

Relegation is a nightmare but the silver lining often is that it gives opportunities to players that wouldn’t otherwise have had them.

Already, Rafa Benitez knows that Aleksandar Mitrovic will miss the first four games through suspension, whilst reports at the weekend claimed Adam Armstrong could also miss the start of the season due to a muscle injury.

Ivan Toney is looking to put himself in the best possible position at Newcastle and has been training throughout the summer, using social media to update fans as to what he has been up to.

Joining his old Northampton team-mate goalkeeper Dean Snedker, Ivan Toney has been put through his paces by coach Lee Garlick.

Watch the video below of the Newcastle striker going the extra mile to prepare himself ahead of pre-season training which begins next week.
