Newcastle United have made an approach for Alexandre Mendy according to reports on Wednesday evening.
Nice have been approached for the striker by Newcastle according to L’Equipe.
The 22 year old has already held talks with Ligue 1 side Guingamp, whilst Bristol City have also been in touch with Nice according to the reports.
Mendy made 18 appearances in Ligue 1 last season as Hatem Ben Arfa inspired Nice to an excellent fourth place finish.
However, 15 of those 18 league games were off the bench and Alexandre Mendy only played 371 minutes of Ligue 1 football in total last season.
In the cups though he had better luck, scoring five goals in only three games, including two against Guingamp, the club where Sylvain Marveaux spent time on loan when at Newcastle.
In the past, Alexandre Mendy has been loaned out to both Nimes and Strasbourg to get more first team appearance.
All the noises from Newcastle of course have been to move away from the French market but low cost deals for young players such as Mendy could maybe still be a possibility.
