Matz Sels is arriving at Newcastle Airport on Tuesday morning to take his medical and sign for Newcastle United.

The Chronicle report that the goalkeeper has been brought in as Tim Krul is set to move out.

The Dutch keeper is expected to be fully fit for pre-season training but with only one year left on his contract, there has been no news of any talks on a new deal.

Everton and Crystal Palace are two of the teams to be linked with Tim Krul, with Matz Sels set to compete with Karl Darlow for the keeper’s shirt at the start of the season. Rob Elliot isn’t expected to be back until Autumn 2016 at the earliest.

Matz Sels is currently number one at Gent and has been so for the last two seasons.

The 24 year old is expected to cost just under £5m and will surely only have been brought in if a deal for Tim Krul was in the offing, which would more than cover the fee for the Belgian keeper.

Sels was called up on October/November 2015 for the national side but hasn’t had any game time for Belgium, being at least fourth down the list behind Thibaut Courtois, Jean-Francois Gillet and Simon Mignolet – the three keepers Belgium have in France at the Euros.
